Switch from MacroFactor without losing your history
Bring your MacroFactor food log, workouts, macros and weigh-ins over.
How to export from MacroFactor
- Open MacroFactor and go to More, then Data Management.
- Choose Data Export and pick what to include: the food log, the workout log, calories and macros, micronutrients and scale weight.
- Choose your date range and export. MacroFactor hands you a spreadsheet, and the food log and workout log as files of their own.
- Upload the file from Settings, under Import your history. There is no need to convert it.
- Include the food log or the calories and macros sheet, the workout log if you lift, and the scale weight sheet. Micronutrients are optional and come across when they are in the file.
- If your weight column does not say whether it is in kilograms or pounds, we ask you rather than guess.
What comes across
- Every food in the food log, filed by the time you logged it, or the calories and macros for each day when only the daily sheet is in the file
- Your workout log as training history, with supersets, warm-up sets and effort
- The micronutrients MacroFactor recorded for those days, in the units MuscleBuddy stores
- Your scale weight history, and body fat where it is in the file
What your export cannot carry
- The spreadsheet holds one total per day rather than the foods in it. Upload the food log as well to bring the foods across.
- MacroFactor does not name a meal, so foods are filed by the time of day they were logged and a daily total arrives as a single entry.
- MacroFactor records dumbbell and fly weights for both hands together, so those are halved to the weight per hand.
- The weight trend and the expenditure estimate are MacroFactor’s own calculations. MuscleBuddy works out its own as you log, so those two are not imported.
Each of these comes from the export file's own format. Anything the file does not contain is reported to you in the preview rather than filled in.
What imported data counts for
Your history, personal records, charts and analytics come with you. Ranks, XP and achievements are earned here, so imported sessions never move them.
Ranks, XP, achievements, streaks and leaderboards count only what you log here, so an imported spreadsheet can't put anyone at the top of a board. Everything that describes your training rather than scoring it, which is your history, your personal records, your charts and your analytics, uses your imported data from day one.
How the import works
Upload a spreadsheet or CSV file and nothing is written yet. You get a preview first: how many rows of each kind, the date range they cover, which names matched automatically, and which need a decision from you.
When you approve it, the rows are written and stamped as part of that import. If a day already has an entry you made yourself, your own entry wins and the imported row is skipped, and the skip is counted and shown rather than quietly dropped.
Changed your mind? One button removes every row that import created and leaves everything else alone. You can upload the same file again months later too. Rows that already exist are skipped instead of duplicated, so you only ever gain what is new.
Your file, and how long we keep it
The uploaded file is stored privately for a short retention window so an import can be retried, then deleted. Undo keeps working after that, because it is keyed to the import rather than the file. Your account holds the data, and you can export it or delete your account at any time.
Frequently asked
- Why did my days arrive as single totals?
The spreadsheet export only contains one row per day. Upload MacroFactor’s food log file too and the individual foods come across; a day in both is imported once, from the food log.
- Will my expenditure carry over?
MacroFactor’s figure is the output of its model, so it is left behind. Your imported intake and weigh-ins are what MuscleBuddy measures its own estimate from.
- Can I undo an import?
Yes. Every row an import writes is stamped with that import, so one button removes all of it and leaves anything you logged yourself untouched. You can also upload the same file again later. Rows that already exist are skipped rather than duplicated.
