The door swings both ways
Every fitness app is happy to take your history. MuscleBuddy is built to hand it back: import from where you came from, connect the products you already run, and read your own record over an API you control.
Bring your history in
Import a workout and bodyweight history from another app rather than starting from an empty log, so progression has something to read on day one instead of three weeks in. Import is free and always will be: a paywall on the path that gets a lifter's three years of history off a competitor defeats the entire point of building it.
The importer keeps the provenance of every row, so an imported set is never quietly presented as something you logged here. What came from somewhere else says so, in the log and in the analytics that read it.
Connect the products you already run
MuscleBuddy links to partner products so the things you track in one place stop being invisible in the other. A connection is a link between two accounts you own, and you can break it from either side; nothing about it is a transfer of ownership.
Separately, you can grant a partner a scope over your own data: what it may read, for how long, and revocable the moment you change your mind. A scope is a grant, not a sale. Nobody buys access to your record, and no connection ever gives a partner more than the scope you named.
Read your own record over an API
Mint a personal access token and read your own training, nutrition and health data over a documented, read-only, user-scoped API. It is the same data the app shows you, addressable from a script, a spreadsheet, or whatever you would rather build yourself.
Listing and revoking a token stay free for everyone, so an account that lapses can always see and kill a credential it created. An already-minted token keeps reading. What Pro buys is minting a new one, not keeping the door open on one you already have.
Leaving is a supported path, not an exception
A full export of your account is available to every member on every tier, and deleting the account deletes the record rather than hiding it. Coaches lose access to a client's data when the relationship ends, because the data belonged to the client the whole time.
None of this is a concession. An app that is hard to leave is telling you what it thinks of its own product.
Frequently asked
- Does importing my history cost anything?
No. Free: importing your history from another app and connecting a partner product, and the scopes you grant it. Pro covers minting a personal access token for the read-only API.
- What can a connected partner product see?
Only the scope you granted it, for as long as you leave that grant in place. You can see every active grant in your settings and revoke any of them, which takes effect immediately.
- Is the API read-only?
Yes. The user-scoped API reads your own data and writes nothing, so a token that leaks cannot change your log. Revoke it and it stops reading.
- What happens to my data if I stop paying?
It stays yours. Pro features stop, the record does not: you keep reading, exporting and deleting your own data on the free tier, and an access token you already minted keeps working.
- Can I get everything out at once?
Yes. A full account export covers your training, nutrition, health and account records in one file, on any tier, without asking anyone.
