One Log, Four Modules: How MuscleBuddy Connects What You Track
A weigh-in moves your calories. A run of bad recovery eases your training week. A declared condition changes your sessions. Here is the map of what feeds what inside MuscleBuddy, and why each change comes with its reason.

Most fitness apps are a stack of separate tools that happen to share a login. The workout tracker does not know you slept four hours. The calorie counter does not know you trained legs. You are the one carrying the information from one screen to the next.
MuscleBuddy is built the other way round. Training, Nutrition, Health and Upkeep read from each other, so the thing you log in one place changes what you see in another. This post shows the map of those connections and walks through the ones you will notice first.
The map
This is every system in MuscleBuddy and the connections between them. Each dot is a part of the app you use, grouped by module. Each line is a place in the code where one of them reads another. Thicker lines carry more.

It looks busy because it is. What matters for training is a handful of those lines, and they are the ones below.
Your weigh-ins move your calories
You log your weight. MuscleBuddy smooths it into a rolling trend, so a salty dinner or a missed bowel movement does not read as progress or as failure. When that trend moves outside the range your goal calls for, your calorie and macro targets adjust to match, and the adjustment tells you what trend it saw.
That is the Health to Nutrition line on the map. It is the reason your targets in week six are still right for you in week six.
Recovery gates your training, over days
If you connect a wearable, your heart rate variability, resting heart rate and sleep feed one recovery score. Before you train, the readiness banner tells you where that score stands and why. On a single rough day that is all it does: your session stays as written, because one bad night is not a trend.
When recovery stays low for several days in a row, or falls steeply week over week, the program eases the whole training week so you can recover, and it says which of those two it saw. One tap undoes it if you disagree.
If you work with a coach, that deload does not apply itself. It arrives in your coach's queue as a proposal, and they decide.
A condition you declare changes your sessions
Upkeep is where you track the things that run on longer clocks: medications, appointments, fasting, and conditions you manage. Declare a condition and its constraints reach your training. That can mean a different rest position, a narrower working range on a lift, or a sodium and fluid target alongside your plan. Each change is labelled with the condition that caused it, and you can undo it in one tap.
As with recovery, a coached member's adaptations go to the coach for review rather than applying on their own.
Training shapes when you eat
Log your training time and the meal planner places food around it, so the meals nearest your session carry more of your carbohydrate. If you fast, your eating window decides where the meals fall. Neither changes your targets. They change when you hit them.
Everything you log counts toward your ranks
Ranks, levels and streaks read from all four modules. Logged cardio and conditioning count toward your health rank. Grip and carry work count toward your forearm rank. Hitting your nutrition targets counts toward your nutrition rank. The progress side of the map is where the rest of it shows up.
Every change says why
The connection between modules is half of it. The other half is that every number you train and eat by comes from a rule you can read. When MuscleBuddy moves your load, eases your week or changes your calories, it carries the reason behind it, in plain language: a weigh-in trend, a stretch of low recovery, or a declared condition.
AI handles conversation and written summaries on top of that. It never sets the numbers.
What this post is not
Nothing here is medical advice. MuscleBuddy tracks conditions, medications and bloodwork so you and your clinician can see them next to your training. Decisions about treatment stay with the two of you.

Frequently asked questions
- Does MuscleBuddy change my workout because I slept badly one night?
- No. On a single rough day the readiness banner tells you where your recovery stands and why, and your session stays as planned. The training week eases only when recovery stays low for several days in a row or trends down week over week, and the app says which of those it saw. One tap undoes it.
- Can my coach override what the app changes?
- Yes. If you train with a coach, a recovery deload or a condition adaptation arrives in their queue as a proposal instead of being applied, and they decide. A coach can override any suggestion the app makes for their client.
- Does AI decide my weights and calories?
- No. The numbers you train and eat by come from rules you can read, and every change carries the reason behind it in plain language. AI handles the coaching conversation and written summaries. It never sets the numbers.
- Is the map in this post the real thing?
- It is drawn from the connections in the code that runs the app, grouped under names a lifter would recognise. The names are ours and the grouping is simplified, but every line on it stands for real places where one part of the app reads another.
